Dear friends, the January appointment with the Women’s Ski World Cup in Cortina is by now a well-established tradition. It is eagerly awaited by athletes, end organizers alike because ir marks a crucial point in time of the racing season. And in fact the Cortina event regularly falls on a date in the February calendar that is only a few days ahead of such great international milestones as the World Championships and, every four years, the Winter Olympic Games. So the best women athletes, come toghether in Ampezzo for the challenge on the “Olimpia delle Tofane”, fight not only to win a prestigious victory, but also to test their good form on a ski course that brings out the qualities of a true champion. In short, they seek here confirmation that in a few weeks’ time they will be fit to reap the highest international honours.
That’s why the world ski circles increasingly look up to Cortina, that’s why the Organising Committee I have the hounour to chair is planning to candidate out town as the venue for the Alpine Ski Champioships. This is being done on the strength of the enthusiasm and appreciation shown to us for the all-out technical effort made over the years – always with the 1956 Olympic Games in mind – to propel Cortina to the height of its sporting accomplishment.
Good wishes to you all!
