Olympia delle Tofane - Cortina d'Ampezzo

Fondazione Cortina 2021 and Dolomiti Superski come together to create Casa Dolomiti Superski

El Camineto at Rumerlo will host debates and discussions on current affairs, sport and sustainability during the World Cup

Date: 17/01/2019 from 0930
Place: Cortina d'Ampezzo

Just a couple of days before the three-day speed races which will light up Olympia delle Tofane in the 2019 Cortina Audi FIS Ski World Cup, Fondazione Cortina 2021 and Dolomiti Superski have come together under the same roof, figuratively and literally, giving their blessing to an important partnership which signals the start of the countdown to the 2021 Ski World Championships.

Casa Dolomiti Superski has been founded primarily as a workshop for ideas: just a short distance from the new-look finish area at Rumerlo, El Camineto, one of the best-loved restaurants in the Ampezzo valley thanks to its delicious gourmet cuisine, will host meetings and debates, a real think tank for passions and strategies. “Casa Dolomiti Superski will be a place where we can nurture the fundamental bond between our two organisations – explains Valerio Giacobbi, CEO of Fondazione Cortina 2021 – where we can promote the twelve valleys in our great ski area and discuss our shared mission to achieve sustainability in winter sports, the cornerstones of the Cortina Charter which has always been one of the pillars of our work”.

This vision is shared by the president of Dolomiti Superski, Sandro Lazzari: “Casa Dolomiti Superski symbolizes this partnership, it is a project that takes its inspiration from Casa Italia, Italy’s team headquarters at international sporting events. We will build and nurture this project to prepare for large-scale events and are thrilled to launch it here, at the World Cup in Cortina. We are highly invested in the 2021 World Championships and are already working with the enthusiasm and efficiency which we are well-known for”.

Italian hospitality in pure Dolomite style: this is the concept of Casa Dolomiti Superski which, from breakfast in the morning to 3.00 pm in the afternoon, will host a busy schedule of meetings and debates between the institutions, representatives of the press and all those involved in realising the great Cortina dream for the future. “It is a new way of relating – continues Giacobbi – I see it as a parallel event to the actual competition, a “physical” space for meetings but also an “ideal” place for debating and sharing those values which we hope to be able to transfer outside the competitive arena in the future”. So while the champions of the White Circus battle it out on the jumps, Schuss and the turns on Scarpadon, the guests and speakers at Casa Dolomiti Superski will compete to see whose idea is the winner”.

A key moment of the meetings at Casa Dolomiti Superski will be the lunch talks. As the final athletes cross the finish line, the idea workshop will spring into action at El Camineto: the first talk is timetabled for Saturday 19 at 12.00, when the subject will be the World Cup, the 2021 World Championships and the Olympics. Alessandro Benetton, president of the Fondazione Cortina 2021, will be joined by the Mayor of Cortina, Gianpietro Ghedina, Sandro Lazzari, president of Dolomiti Superski and Marco Zardini, representing Consorzio Skipass, the ski lift consortium, to discuss the economic and promotional repercussions of such important events on an area in the mountains. Veneto Region Councillor, Federico Caner, Flavio Roda, president of FISI and Andrea Illy, president of Fondazione Altagamma, will also take part in the discussion. They will be joined by representatives of the institutions, the government and CONI, who are due to arrive in Cortina that very day.

Michelle Hunziker will also make an appearance, as she is in Cortina to receive a donation from the Consorzio del Prosecco DOC on behalf of the Fondazione Doppia Difesa, which has supported women who are victims of violence for over 10 years.

Then, on Saturday at 2.00 pm, the focus will shift to sustainable development in the area, an issue promoted by Fondazione Cortina 2021, Dolomiti Superski, ENEL and Audi in the plans to redevelop the resort in preparation for the World Championships.

The partnership between Cortina Charter and Charta Smeralda will also be launched, consolidating – beginning with the issue of environmental protection – the territorial conservation projects and affinities between Cortina and the Emerald Coast, both members of the Territori Altagamma project.

The speakers will include Susanna Sieff, sustainability manager of Fondazione Cortina 2021, Commodore Riccardo Bonadeo, vice president of One Ocean Foundation, Fabrizio Longo, director of Audi Italia, Federico Pippo, SDA professor of Corporate Finance and Sandro Lazzari, president of Dolomiti Superski representing ANEF. The conclusions will be presented by Vannia Gava, Undersecretary of the Environment. At the end of the meeting, the Cortina Charter will symbolically sign the Charta Smeralda and vice versa.

On Sunday 20, the lunch talk begins at 12.45 pm, following the super G award ceremony: on the menu will be communication and information, as well as the presentation of the newly-formed Media Committee for the 2021 Alpine Ski World Championships in Cortina. Some of the leading names of Italian journalism who are particularly committed to the issues of sport, the mountains and sustainability, have been invited to join the Committee to share their vision. Just as climbers depend on their team members in the mountains, the new media committee will work together in the 48 months of the final run-up to the international competition, combining their passion and expertise to ensure the Championships truly represent shared working methods and good practices.
