CONI, FISI AND FONDAZIONE CORTINA 2021: RIO MEDAL WINNERS TEAM UP WITH ITALY’S FEMALE SKIERS FOR PYEONGCHANG 2018 AND THE WORLD SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS 2021

Sport teams up with sport: De Francisca and Brignone, Di Costanzo and Goggia will all be in Cortina to promote a new way of communicating and experiencing sport

The Alpine Ski World Cup in Cortina is launching an innovative message in the sports world: on 28 and 29 January 2017 the Rio 2016 Italia Team will take to the slopes of Cortina d’Ampezzo to cheer on the Italian athletes competing in the speed races on Olympia delle Tofane.

This is the new project organised by Fondazione Cortina 2021, FISI (Italian Federation of Winter Sports) and Italia Team: sport is teaming up with sport, handing over the “baton”, a chance to share and grow, experience passion and emotion as they prepare for the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and the 2021 World Ski Championships in Cortina, which will be organised by Fondazione Cortina 2021. 

Elisa di Francisca (silver medal), the perfect “captain” of Italia Team at Cortina, with Marco Di Costanzo (bronze medal), Marco del Lungo, Christian Presciutti, Nicholas Presciutti and Alessandro Nora (bronze medal), Sofia Lodi (4th place), Francesco Fossi (4th place) are all ready to lend their support to their female skiing team mates, conveying the true spirit of the Olympic Italia Team that is growing and getting stronger and stronger by the day. It is not belonging to a single sport that matters, but being part of a single identity: I AM ITALIA TEAM.  

Love and passion for your discipline, the desire to push yourself, up your game and measure yourself with the others, believing in your goals, respect and honour for the prestigious Italian sports tradition: these are the feelings the athletes convey. To take all the hard work, sacrifice and courage and turn it into something that will help you achieve important goals, accepting your limits and pushing yourself to excel.

“Team” means together, “team” means value, “team” means objectives, “team” means results: the athletes who compete in the winter and summer Olympics come together and share their experiences, and it is only by listening to these experiences, by sharing your goals and enthusiasm, that you win.

This project is designed to bring together the big names of Italian sport and its supporters, the world of the summer Olympics and the Winter Games.

Cortina d’Ampezzo, declared UNESCO World Heritage Site, will be the stage for exciting emotions. The essence of the project: to come together through sport, excellence and dreams. 

This project is new, it is young. It involves everyone so everyone can have a chance to experience the Olympic Italia Team. And meeting the public will be at the heart of the Italian Olympic Team, as the top sportsmen and women meet their fans. Great achievements lived from one point of view: ITALIA TEAM.

And there are more thrills in store, thanks to the latest technologies: a helmet with a 360° video camera will be given to ski and snowboard schools so skiers can relive their run in “augmented reality” on special 360° goggles available in the Italia Team Area in the middle of the “Queen of the Dolomites”. Plus, fans will be able to immortalise their favourite champion by taking a selfie with them at the Selfie Totem.

For the 2021 World Ski Championships, the Foundation is focusing on the possible “coalition” between sport and innovation, between winter sports and care and respect for the environment and, last but not least, between top events and great legacies, not only infrastructures but knowledge and experience. 

With I AM ITALIA TEAM, youngsters and athletes can have their say and work together to organise a great sporting event.

In Cortina, sport becomes a team game.  I AM ITALIA TEAM!
