The first official act of the 2017 Ski World Cup in Cortina has been concluded. At 6.00 pm, in a crowded Alexander Girardi Hall, the first Team Captains’ Meeting was held by the FIS Ladies’ Alpine Ski World Cup Race Director, Atle Skaardal, assisted by Jean Philippe Vuillet and Thomas Gsodam.
Paolo Nicoletti, CEO of Fondazione Cortina 2021, opened the meeting, welcoming the team captains and thanking Enrico Valle and the Associazione Permanente Coppa del Mondo for their dedication in organising the races on the Olympia delle Tofane for 25 years. Then the Foundation’s General Secretary, Stefania Demetz, introduced the new Chief of Race, Francesco Ghedina, and Chief of Course, Denis Constantini.
Next to speak was Atle Skaardal, who has been a regular visitor to Cortina in the past few months. "Cortina is going through an important transition that will culminate in the World Ski Championships in 2021- said Skaardal. FIS has total confidence in the organisation of the race because even the people who are new this year are well-known and are assisted by experts like Adolfo Menardi and Fernando Nucciotti. I have every confidence that everything will be perfect on the course".
Next on the agenda was the bib draw for the first timed training session, which will begin Thursday morning at 10.30 am, the same start time as Saturday’s race.
