Ingmar Stenmark and his 86 victories in the World Cup are not a long staircase for her: just 12 steps. Lindsey Vonn today in Cortina took victory number 74 of her extraordinary career. Last year, in Cortina, she reached and passed the most successful woman ever (62 victories), the Austrian Anne Marie Moser Proell, to whom this morning the US has stolen another record, that of the victories in the Cup's downhills. Now Lindsey is at 37. But there is another victim in this extraordinary day, another Austrian: Renate Goetschl, who today was reached 10 hits on the Olympia delle Tofane slope.
A cyclone. And this morning, even the wind who got up in violent gusts after the first departures bowed to the passage of the Queen. Vonn with 1'37 "01 inflicted 28/100 of a second to the Canadian Larisa Yurkiw, already second last year on this slope, and 67/100 to the Swiss Lara Gut, who once again confirmed to be the most serious opponent the race for the crystal ball of the overall standings.
A noble ranking, with the daughter in art Tina Wairather fourth at 1"01, and the Italian Johanna Schnarf 1"06 behind. Verena Stuffer at 1"75, Francesca Marsaglia 16th at 2"13. Tomorrow on the Olympia delle Tofane is scheduled the third women's superG of the season at 11:30: this specialty, needless to say it always dominated by Vonn, already winner in Lake Louise and in Altenmarkt Zauchensee.
Main opponents will still be Gut, the Austrian Huetter and Tippler and, hopefully, our Nadia Fanchini. Italy shall also line up Brignone, Marsaglia, Elena Fanchini, Schnarf, Elena Curtoni, Stuffer and Goggia.
Live television broadcast on RaiSport 1 and Eurosport.
