Olympia delle Tofane - Cortina d'Ampezzo

Discovering the live broadcasting operations in Cortina

They are like ants working tirelessly for days on the Olympia delle Tofane slope

Date: 14/01/2016
Place: Cortina d'Ampezzo

They are like ants working tirelessly for days on the Olympia delle Tofane slope, hosting on Saturday, 23 January  the fifth Women's World Cup downhill (10.15) and on Sunday the superG (11.30). The technical team of Infront Sports & Media will allow us to experience live the emotions of the races.

Fifteen men now, who will become 72 in the days next to the races, managed by Franco Scotton, the executive producer. People can hardly understand, when sitting in front of a television, how much work there is behind those few hours of live broadcasting. Franco Scotton explains: "We will document the races with 23 cameras plus two "super slow "and one for "slow motion", those that allow to see the tiniest details in slow motion in a more exciting way. In addition, at the big bend there will be another special camera hanging from a pole, as well as two "giraffe" in other parts of the track."

Trestles to mount to support cameras, all the equipment to move along the slope, 18.000 meters of cables to be laid. “At this stage of preparation  - continues Scotton - it will be no  less than 80 hours of work to prepare a slope like the Olympia delle Tofane for the shooting live television, and the secret is a well-rehearsed team, engineers working together for years. To bring up the equipment we use the helicopter and snowcats."

At least in Cortina Nature is not hostile, it is not difficult to meet a chamois in search of food. But when this team has worked in Lake Louise, Canada,  in the state of Alberta, he had to thank the fact that the bears were dormant, but it was on the agenda each day to face on the road with wolves, foxes and squirrels.

Once the equipment will be installed, it will be the turn of the technical tests. "The first test will be on Wednesday, when the organizers will drop the first forerunners to check  the slope - explained Scotton -, our final run through  will be on Thursday at the first official training, while on Friday the second test will already be broadcast live by Eurosport."

Good job. All we can do is to wait for the show.
