All on track: the show of alpine skiing in Cortina can finally start with the training of the downhill. Tomorrow morning, at 10:30 am, the starting point is at Punta Anna, altitude of 2320, just above the Pomedes hut. Caprioli junction, the Tofane Schuss, where the slope has the max gradient of 64%, a flight near by the Duca d’Aosta hut and a jump into the wood. Bivio Tofanina, Diagonale and the Grand Curvone: those are the key point of the Olympia delle Tofane slope. And so on, with the Scarpadon, the Pale of Rumerlo, the variant of Casonetti and the diagonal end, the last jump and the arrival. 760 meters in altitude for a total track length of 2539 meters for less then just two minutes of race.

Today in Cortina was sunny. And the track was lovely: iced and compacted. Another miracle of the organizing committee in this winter without snow almost everywhere: the satisfaction is real and you can understand it talking to the OC president Enrico Valle and to the FIS Race Director Assistant Jean-Philippe Vulliet. Meanwhile at sunset began to snow in large flakes, but at 18.00, when the team captains’ meeting took placed, it had already stopped. Only two money of snow, as they say in these parts. For tomorrow the weather forecasts say "clouds may mask the sun during the morning hours." Not bad. While on Friday, the day of the first downhill of the World Cup, the condition is expected to escalate to light snowfall. We all keep fingers crossed.

These are the starting numbers of the magnificent seven of the downhill training of tomorrow 10.30 chosen by their coaches: 16 Tina Maze, 18 Anna Fenninger, 19 Tina Weirather, 20 Lara Gut, 15 Lindsey Vonn, 21 Elisabeth Goergl, 10 Marianne Abderhalden. Nobody wanted the bib 17, except the french Marion Rolland who is not superstitious. The first of the italian skiers to take the start will be Daniela Merighetti with bib number 3. Following Elena Fanchini with 13, Verena Stuffer with 27, Johanna Schnarf with 35, Nadia Fanchini with 38, Francesca Marsaglia with 41 and Elena Curtoni, the last competitor, with bib number 46.

NOTE: Due to the changes in the Wengen World Cup programme, the ladies' downhill race, scheduled on Saturday 17th in Cortina d’Ampezzo, will start at 11.30 am (and not at 10.30 as originally planned).
