CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, 18th JANUARY 2014 – More than 100 people did their best at night and this early morning to allow the start of today’s race on the Olimpia delle Tofane. But the relatively warm temperatures, the wet snow and poor visibility compromised the event. It had been decided to lower down the start to the entrance of the Schuss, but half an hour before the green light, the expert FIS Chief Race Director for the Ladies World Cup Atle Skaardal had to announce the sad decision.
“All has been done, but conditions are too bad, we have to give up”, said us the president of Cortina’s World Cup Enrico Valle, who is the president of the bidding committee for the Alpine Ski World Championship 2019 as well.
The team captain meeting will take place at 5pm and further information will be given about the schedule of the next days. The downhill cancelled today should be replaced tomorrow, but, according to the weather forecast, snow could make an appearance once again in the late afternoon continuing all night long. The foreseen delivery is about 40cm.
So let’s hope for the best but prepare for the worst!
