CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, 17TH JANUARY 2014 – Last downhill training run before tomorrow’s race was cancelled early this morning due to fresh snowfall and we expect conditions to improve not earlier than this evening. A lot of catwork is needed to get the track ready, snow cats are currently pushing the snow to the sides. Let’s hope for the best, hoping that the course will held up well.
As to the downhill race, weather forecast announces poor visibility in the morning, snow could make an appearance in the early morning and temperatures shouldn’t drop far below zero.
As to the athletes who are looking for an excellent result, Maria Riesch performed a mistake-free training run, Anna Fenninger registered a small time difference, Tina Weirather doesn’t fear the challenging course and Tina Maze claimed a brilliant rank two yesterday. She crossed the finish line only one hundredth of seconds behind the German leading athlete.
So who will celebrate a triumph tomorrow? Will it be an advantage to have a low bib number? And will there be a change in the top position of the World Cup ranking?
At 5pm the team captain meeting for the latest news.
